The precision optics team at Teledyne FLIR provides optics for thousands of uncooled and cooled cameras and systems. Ranging in size from the Black Hornet nano-UAV to large airborne and maritime gimbals, our optics are a critical part of Teledyne FLIR’s systems, helping secure and protect air and naval facilities, combat and peacekeeping forces, borders, and critical infrastructure. Highly skilled opticians, state-of-the-art computer numerical control (CNC) equipment, and deterministic processes make up the core foundation of the conventional and CNC polishing areas. This philosophy of dual competencies provides the capability and flexibility to address the most complex shapes. Advanced capabilities include: Asphere Grinding and Polishing, Magneto Rheological Finishing (MRF), custom 5-axis machining / shaping, and freeform surface processing. Substrates include all glass types and various IR crystals.
Ultra precision Single Point Diamond Turning (SPDT) platforms coupled with full-aperture metrology allows FLIR Precision Optics to exceed customers’ expectations. Years of experience processing a wide variety of IR crystals and non-ferrous metals allow us to meet your demanding needs. Geometries include aspheric, diffractive profiles, parabolic, toroidal, ellipsoidal, select free-forms, and precision lens arrays. Advanced capabilities include Slow Tool Servo, Fast Tool Servo, and B axis configurations for steep surfaces.
Thin Film Coatings
FLIR engineers can assist in the design, development and production of customized coating solutions to meet precise optical specifications. This includes AR coatings, filter coatings, beam-splitters, and metal coatings for Vis, NIR, SWIR, MWIR and LWIR wavebands. Quartz crystal and optical monitoring allows for in-situ film deposition monitoring and precise layer thickness control. FLIR specializes in high-durability anti-reflective coatings that are designed to withstand the harshest marine salt / fog environments. DLC is also available for extreme durability requirements. FLIR’s coatings have demonstrated excellent performance under the most challenging conditions.
Optical / Mechanical Assemblies and Sub-Assemblies
Teledyne FLIR designs and produces ruggedized, MIL-SPEC qualified optical assemblies and sub-assemblies utilizing more than 20 years of experience and consistent quality. With our products going into extreme conditions, our assemblies are rigorously tested both for optical performance as well as mechanical durability. Patterned Optics, Reticles and Reticle Assemblies
Patterned optics are optical components with technical patterns. These patterns either convey information (reticles, alpha-numerics) or perform a function, such as electro-magnetic interference (EMI) attenuation, heating or targeting. Teledyne FLIR is the largest volume U.S. manufacturer of precision reticles for both military and sport optics. Teledyne FLIR reticles have been fielded on more than one million military riflescopes. From illuminated reticles and non-illuminated reticles, to high visibility technology patterns, our engineers work to ensure the reticle patterns provide the user with the information needed for their application.
